Reflections Nursery first in Worthing to be awarded 'Outstanding' by Ofsted

Reflections Nursery, in Richmond Road, Worthing is the first day nursery in the borough to be awarded an 'Outstanding' at their recent Ofsted Inspection.

Inspectors commented in the report that Reflections management team, 'Has an extremely clear vision of where and how they want to develop the nursery. The strong ethos influences the high quality of care these young children receive.'

The nursery which was taken over by Reflections four years ago won UK Nursery of the Year last year but hadn't been inspected by Ofsted since its initial inspection in 2007. The nursery draws its inspiration from Reggio Emilia, a city in Northern Italy whose pre-schools have developed a world-wide reputation for quality.

The nursery is well-known locally for its innovative approach having recently taken on a horticulturalist to help children grow their own food and they have resident artists to support children's creativity. Inspectors noted that Reflections provides some unique opportunities for children, including a Forest School programme taking children into local woodland two days a week.

The inspectors noted the strong relationship between staff and parents at the nursery. Manager, Yvonne Barr commented, 'The staff are fantastic and this is real recognition for their skill and dedication and I know parents will be thrilled, too. We have all worked so hard toward this goal and we are thrilled that our efforts have been rewarded with a great result.'

Reflections also won the Worthing Business of the Year in the medium to large business category at the business awards this year. Director Louise Rose, commented, '2010 has been a great year for us. We always set out to give voice to children's ideas and we are delighted that Ofsted have recognised the value of our work. This result is fantastic for the staff and we will help us continue with our programme of constant improvement.'
